‘When The Ships Come In’ by Lee Wen

‘When The Ships Come In’ commemorates Singapore’s role as an important port of call the ships in the early days, which witnesses the gathering of ships from different countries and cultures. Singapore’s early history is closely connected to the sea. Hence, the mural is composed of a collage of ship images based on actual historical ship models as well as pure fantasy and imagination. Each of them is drawn by young Singaporeans – aged between 7 to 12 –. Not only is Singapore’s history capsuled through these ships, but also Singapore children’s hopes for the future.

TECO fabricated and supplied 63m² of graphic vitreous enamel panels to this project at the pedestrian walkway. Graphic vitreous enamel panels can retain their integrity and image much longer than other cladding materials. Other advantages include ease of graffiti removal, tolerance to chemical solutions, high scratch resistance surfaces, and colors that will always stay vibrant during the lifespan of stations.
