‘Leaves Of Time’ artwork VE panels in Bedok North MRT Station

Bedok North MRT Station (DT29) is an underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Downtown Line in the northern part of Bedok, Singapore, located along Bedok North Road, near the Pan Island Expressway flyover and the Bedok Town Park.

TECO fabricated and supplied 5,500m² of vitreous enamel panels in this project. They were installed in the pedestrian walkway, concourse subways, and surrounding the escalators. Other than the walls with single colour panels, some areas come with panels in two different colours which are alternate between beige and white, or between grey and white.

Besides, we can also find numerous lovely artwork vitreous enamel panels in this station. The inspiration for this artwork came from the Umbrella trees and leaves found around the Bedok North station. The artwork shows the leaves falling gracefully from the trees – dancing with the winds full of vigour and spirit – as it makes its way to be among the people, the community.

TECO used silkscreen printing to put these artwork graphics on the VE panels. The leaf images were fused into vitreous enamel coating after firing at 780℃ by the advanced computer control furnace in TECO factory. Unlike traditional printing images, enamel artwork graphics contain all the same advantages of single-colour enamel coating. They are colourfast even though under sunlight or very harsh environments, they are not scratchable, and they are resistant to chemicals.
